On January 22, many volunteers from three congregations camped out at the Central Congregational Church on 296 Angell Street, in Providence.
That night was very cold, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the approximately 40 campers.
They slept in cardboard boxes and gathered donations for Amos House. At first glance, if you looked, it appeared as if it was just a fun night out, but it had a reason!
Pastor S. Kathryn Townes, of Central Congregational Church, was one among the campers, which came from Barrington, Newman Congregational of East Providence and Central Congregational of Providence. Pastor Townes said, “This was the 10th year that this has been done and should be recognized how the volunteers camped and will continue to do this, until the stigma of homelessness is solved!”
