September’s Rainbow Award proudly goes to the Recovery All Star’s Band. They voluntarily play in many places in Rhode Island, including coffee houses, and perform at the Public Square Day at Burnside Park every 2nd Tuesday of the month from 11:30am – 1:30pm.
Over the years 100 members have performed for this band. Also they’re the cover band for a sit-com that’s on Channel 10, after Saturday Night live, called “Rhode Bytes,” and spearheaded by Doreen Collins, who used to team with Charlie Hall, years ago and she’s also associated with Channel 10. Other band members include:
Mike Capeles, who says, “It’s in the blood, helping find a motivating focus & continue playing, learning more.” Frank Spicola, Program Manager; SSTAR, who says, “It’s to give back to the community.” Daryll Clay, who says, “It’s being able to go back to the rehabs, and making a difference. This does wonders to the attendees at these places.” And of course, Jim Gillen, Recovery Coach of the Providence Center, who’s involved with so many things…who provides the heart and soul of this band.
They rehearse at J.M. Kennedy, on Main St. in Pawtucket on the last Saturday of the month @ 6:30pm for the late evening showing on Channel 10…keep an eye and ear open, for they’ll be coming to play at various places…we’ll keep you posted of where!
